On a recent Tuesday, Ashley Morales was filled with anticipation as she stepped into the Kansas City Chiefs locker room. This was the highlight of her tour at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, a moment she had envisioned for a long time. As she entered, however, the sudden presence of TV cameras made her pause. The two teens, Ashley Morales and Jaden Lopez, along with their families, had been invited as part of the NFL’s Latino Youth Honors program, and they had no idea they were about to receive a thrilling surprise.
Isiah Pacheco, the Chiefs' running back, entered the locker room, and Chiefs staff motioned for Morales to join him. Suddenly, the reality hit: they were in for an unforgettable experience.
"I'm so happy to be here," Morales exclaimed as she floated across the locker room to meet her sports idol. 🏈
A Journey of Discovery for Jaden Lopez 💪
Not far behind were Lopez and some teammates from East High School. Initially, Lopez thought the visit was solely a tour of the locker room and field. “I wasn't expecting to meet Pacheco,” he admitted, also sharing his experience playing baseball for the East High Bears.
For the first time, Morales found herself inside Arrowhead Stadium. “I've just been a fan, watching from TV my whole life. To be here is amazing,” she said, her excitement palpable. “Even just the tour itself, seeing areas I'd only dreamed about, was incredible.”
An Unexpected Gift 🎫
As Pacheco showed Morales and Lopez around his locker, he revealed one last surprise: “This is where we keep our shirts, and we also have these two tickets for you to come to the game!”
Morales couldn’t control her joy, squealing in delight as Lopez, who had attended preseason games but never a regular season match, simply stood in awe at the unexpected gift. “For me, growing up, I never got to meet an NFL player, so I know this moment will be something they cherish forever,” Pacheco said.
Finding Strength Through Football ⚡
Recently, Morales joined a flag football team, which has become a valuable outlet for her. This came after a challenging year dealing with the loss of her best friend, Maylin Valles, to aplastic anemia. “Losing her had a big impact on my life,” she reflected. “It caused me to fall into a deep depression, but now I have something to look forward to at the end of the day with practices and being a team player.”
Pacheco himself has a story steeped in resilience. Growing up as the youngest of five in New Jersey, he faced the unimaginable: losing two siblings to violence. He credits football for helping him navigate those years. “Every day is a new opportunity. Football has taught me how to bounce back and stay focused,” he noted.
Overcoming Challenges Together ❤️🩹
Lopez's story also reflects his resilience. His father faced deportation while he was growing up, leading his mother and grandfather to raise him. Nevertheless, sports became his grounding force. “Baseball and football kept me on track with my grades. I wouldn’t be able to play sports if I didn’t maintain my grades,” Lopez shared, highlighting his 3.2 GPA as a testament to the balancing act sports provided between academics and athletics.
Both Morales and Lopez are navigating their paths amid personal struggles. Morales emphatically stated, “Sometimes it's hard to carry everything at once, but it’s definitely worth it. This moment proves that someone is recognizing my hard work.”

Pacheco concluded the heartwarming day by expressing his hopes for the upcoming game against the Baltimore Ravens. “I can’t wait to see you both out there. If I score a touchdown, I’m hoping to give you a game ball!” Morales and Lopez are already counting down the days until they can witness the action live.
